'What are the suggested alternatives?
Differential Diagnosis
All patients should receive what is called “differential diagnosis” whereby the doctor analyses the patients medical history and conducts a thorough physical examination to rule out any possible problems that might cause a set of symptoms. These medical tests could include comprehensive blood tests, X-rays, or even MRI and should be based solely on scientific medical validity rather than subjective opinion led diagnosis to ensure that a person’s problem does not stem from an untreated medical condition that is manifesting as a “psychiatric” symptom.
Informed Consent
In general medicine the standard for informed consent should include communicating the nature of the diagnoses, the purpose of a proposed treatment or procedure, the risks and benefits of the proposed treatment, and information on alternative treatments so that an informed and educated choice can be sought by the patient.
Exploring your other options
There are numerous excellent alternatives to be discovered including standard medical care, environmental solutions, education, and many socially orientated support groups if one searches around for them.
Although CCHR NZ does not condone or promote any specific practitioner, medical organization, practice or group, we have found the below resources to be helpful for individuals looking for more information on the following topics:
